Beach season to start in Kyiv

By the start of the beach season, 16 central city beaches and 35 recreation areas will open in Kyiv. Meanwhile, 34 bodies of water are not recommended for bathing. Complex inspections of waterside recreation areas, carried out by the Chief Emergency Management Directorate of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) show that the capital’s municipal services have done a satisfactory job of preparing the city beaches and recreation areas for the summer season, reports www.fotolenta.com.

Repairs were done during the year to secure adequate sanitary-epidemiological conditions in recreation areas for Kyivites and visitors to the capital, including area clean-ups, repairs to beach equipment, cleaning bodies of water, and removal of garbage and weeds. In order to prevent swimming accidents, experts from the Pleso City Municipal Enterprise (MKP) spend the year patrolling over 40 waterways in the city and up and down the Dnipro within the boundaries of Kyiv.

Three lifeguard scuba divers’ and 12 lifeguard stations, 6 lifeguard posts, and 24 first-aid stations have been organized, complete with the required rivercraft, rescue, and medical equipment, manned by specially trained personnel. A licensed chemical laboratory is tasked with monitoring the sanitary conditions of these bodies of water as well as any discharge waters. Three hundred tons of fertile soil have been delivered, and 200 trees and 250 bushes planted. Submerged sections of beaches and recreation areas are being studied and cleaned where necessary, along with the preparation of paperwork required of the lifeguard and scuba-diving stations. Water supply networks and drinking fountains are being inspected, repaired, and disinfected. In areas lacking a regular water supply soft-drink retail outlets are being set up.
