January 21: 1919. A nationwide congress in the town of Khust passed a decision on unifying Transcarpathia with the Ukrainian National Republic.

1934. The Twenty-Second Congress of the Communist Party of Ukraine passed a decision to transfer the capital of Ukraine from Kharkiv to Kyiv.

January 22. The Ukrainian Unity Day.

1919. Dyrektoriya of the UNR proclaimed the unification of the Ukrainian National Republic and Western Ukrainian National Republic in a single united Ukraine at St. Sophia Square in Kyiv.

1992. The First Congress of Ukrainians took place in Kyiv.

January 23: 1930. The KP(b)U Central Committee approved a decision obliging party organizations to start dispossessing the kulaks in the regions of complete collectivization.

1992. An exchange of notes took place in Kyiv between Ukraine and the US on establishing full-fledged diplomatic relations.

January 24:1944. The Korsun-Shevchenko offensive operation of the First and Second Ukrainian Fronts began.

1996. A memorandum On Cooperation between Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Seym of Lithuania was signed in Vilnius.

January 25: 1919. The Provisional Peasants’ and Workers’ Government of Ukraine approved a declaration On the Need to Unite Ukrainian and Russian SSRs on the Basis of a Socialistic Federation.

1931. An All-Ukrainian Week to Combat Illiteracy began.

January 26: 1993. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registered the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists.

1995. The first regional center for certificate auctions was opened in Zhytomyr.

January 27: 1918. The UNR delegation signed a peace treaty with representatives of the Union of the Four in Brest-Litovsk.

1924. Kyiv city and gubernia councils approved a decision to erect a monument to Lenin in Kyiv.
