A story of one decoration

According to one of the many versions of the origin of this holiday, it is a day when every house is filled with empty boxes because on the Catholic Christmas everyone unpacks their presents.

When I learned about this interesting holiday, I recalled a box from my childhood. I was five years old and my mother was decorating the house for the holidays. She brought this box and hung it over my bed. It was a small arrangement of cones, twigs, and the little box wrapped in bright paper and tied with golden string. When I asked my mom about what was in there, she said that it had nothing in it because it was simply a decoration. But for some reason I did not believe her and couldn’t take my eyes off this beauty until my mother left the room. My curiosity was bugging me, so I picked up the mysterious box and weighed it on a hand – it seemed heavy and full of something magical. I held my breath and looked under the bright paper. And there I found out that it was even not a box but a simple chunk of wood. It is hard to explain my disappointment from back then.

Since that time I have a rule – every beautiful box must be filled accordingly. Therefore, when I give out gifts wrapped in beautiful paper I keep in mind that the cover is only half the matter. The most important is inside.
