The city intends to build an observation deck to attract tourists to ancient Luchesk [ancient name of Lutsk. – Ed.]. Mayor of Lutsk Mykola Romaniuk wants 2012 to become the year of advancement in tourism and culture. Medieval Lutsk Castle has recently become one of the seven winners of the All-Ukrainian contest “Seven Wonders of Ukraine: Castles, Fortresses, Palaces,” while the annual event “Night in the Lutsk Castle” is one of the city’s trademark attractions. However, there is still a good deal of work to do in creating an observation deck from which one would indeed see the unique landscape of the old town. There is quite a lot of garbage within the State Historical and Cultural Reserve Lutsk Old Town as there is no shortage of unauthorized dumps there, and speaking more generally, this part of the city does not look like a complete architectural ensemble such as the old town of Kamianets-Podilsky. Therefore, the historic district of the city will be cleaned up, while its architectural landmarks and places of worship will be provided with adequate illumination, so that one could enjoy the view of the city’s beautiful skyline from the observation deck after dark, too.
