Dnipro will be hearing jazz

“Jazz on the Dnipro River” will bring together leading jazz musicians. The main festival events will take place on Monastyrsky Island. Guests will be transported across Shevchenko Park. “For those who will find it difficult to walk across the island, a jazz train will be organized,” said Hanna Russkevych, the festival producer, at a press conference. Musicians will be able to attend free workshops at the Mikhail Glinka Conservatory. “On September 10, the workshop of Michael Mwenso, vocalist and band leader, curator at the Lincoln Jazz Center, will open. For September 11 we have planned a workshop by Cyrus Chestnut, composer and pianist,” said Russkevych.

Ukraine is represented on the festival’s main stage by Dmytro Aleksandrov’s quintet Bobeen, the band Credo, and the Eurovision song contest winner Jamala.

According to Yevhen Hendin, non-staff adviser to Mayor of Dnipro on culture, festival guests will be able to attend every event, as they do not overlap. An online broadcast will be set up for those who cannot attend in person. “Live broadcast from the Monastyrsky Island will be supported by Frigate TV,” said Hendin. He also said that the entrance to the festival will be free for children and adolescents. “Children under 12 can come to Monastyrsky Island for free if accompanied by parents. For teenagers under 16, the fan zone will be free too.” The jazz music will also be free of charge for organized groups of students at the conservatory and the city’s music schools, ATO soldiers, and people with disabilities.

Dnipro is going to continue reviving the traditions of interesting cultural events. “The next event we are planning to host – the memorial days of Alexander Galich. Most likely, it will be held in October,” said Hryhorii Helfer, head of “Cultural Capital” NGO.
